1. Product Information
Why is high-speed storage important for modern devices?
As applications become more demanding and file sizes grow larger (4K/8K video, high-resolution photos, games), fast and reliable storage is essential. Modern devices need high-capacity, high-speed storage to handle intensive workloads without bottlenecks. OSCOO's SSDs and memory solutions ensure your device performs at its best.
What do speed ratings like 7500MB/s mean?
Speed ratings indicate maximum data transfer rates. For example:
- Read speed (7500MB/s): How fast data loads from the drive
- Write speed (6800MB/s): How fast data saves to the drive
How do I choose the right capacity?
- 256GB-512GB: Basic storage, documents, light use
- 1TB: Gaming, photo editing, general use
- 2TB: Video editing, large game libraries
- 4TB+: Professional content creation, data archiving
2. About SSDs
Do I need to install drivers for my OSCOO SSD?
SATA SSDs: No drivers needed for Windows 7/10/11 or macOS - they're built-in
NVMe PCIe SSDs:
- Windows 10/11: Native support, no drivers needed
- Windows 7: Requires NVMe driver installation
- macOS: Native support for compatible models
How do I check if my computer supports M.2 NVMe SSDs?
Check your motherboard specifications - M.2 slots may support SATA-only, NVMe-only, or both. Visit your PC/laptop manufacturer's website or check your manual. Look for "M.2 PCIe" or "M.2 NVMe" support specifically.
Do all M.2 SSDs work in any M.2 slot?
No. M.2 slots can be:
- SATA-only: Won't work with NVMe drives
- PCIe/NVMe-only: Won't work with SATA M.2 drives
- Both: Supports either type
Why is my SSD benchmark different from advertised speeds?
Several factors affect performance:
- Different benchmark tools give different results
- High-end systems typically achieve better speeds
- Used drives with data may perform slightly slower
- Background processes can impact testing
- Ensure your system supports the SSD's full capabilities (PCIe generation, lanes)
Should I defragment my SSD?
No, never defragment an SSD. SSDs use wear leveling to distribute writes evenly across all cells. Defragmentation is unnecessary and reduces SSD lifespan. Windows 10/11 automatically optimizes SSDs with TRIM instead.
What is TRIM and why is it important?
TRIM is a command that tells the SSD which data blocks are no longer in use. This allows the SSD to:
- Maintain optimal performance over time
- Efficiently manage storage space
- Extend drive lifespan
- Work with garbage collection for better efficiency
What's the difference between SSD and HDD?
SSDs (Solid State Drives):
- No moving parts - uses flash memory
- 10-100x faster than HDDs
- Silent operation
- Shock resistant
- Lower power consumption
HDDs (Hard Disk Drives):
- Mechanical spinning disks
- Slower but cheaper per GB
- Audible operation
- Vulnerable to physical shock
- Higher power usage
What is M.2?
M.2 (formerly NGFF - Next Generation Form Factor) is a compact SSD form factor. Key points:
- Sizes: 2242, 2260, 2280 (22mm wide, 42/60/80mm long)
- Interfaces: SATA or NVMe/PCIe
- Direct motherboard mounting
- No cables required
What is Garbage Collection?
Garbage Collection (GC) is an automatic process that:
- Consolidates scattered data fragments
- Frees up storage blocks for new data
- Maintains SSD performance
- Works with TRIM for optimal efficiency
- OSCOO SSDs use optimized GC algorithms for smooth operation.
What is S.M.A.R.T. and how do I check it?
S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) monitors SSD health including:
- Total bytes written/read
- Power-on hours
- Temperature
- Available spare blocks
- Overall health status
Check using tools like CrystalDiskInfo.
Does modifying my SSD void the warranty?
Yes. Any physical modification, firmware tampering, or opening the SSD enclosure voids your warranty. Only use official OSCOO firmware updates.
My SSD has slow performance or compatibility issues. What should I do?
- Verify your system meets requirements (PCIe generation, NVMe support)
- Update motherboard BIOS/UEFI
- Ensure proper drivers are installed
- Check cable connections (for SATA drives)
- Disable power-saving modes for maximum performance
How do I transfer my OS to a new SSD?
Use disk cloning software to migrate your system:
- Connect new SSD (via USB adapter or second M.2 slot)
- Use cloning software (many free options available)
- Clone entire system drive
- Set new SSD as boot drive in BIOS
- Verify successful boot before formatting old drive
This preserves all data, settings, and applications.
